DEPOIS DO CAOS by Mtáfora

The individual exhibition DEPOIS DO CAOS by Duarte Próspero aka Mtáfora , will open on July 7, from 6 pm. to 8.30 pm. The exhibition will remain open until July 28 and the admission is free.

From the troubled universe of the human mind, where emotions intertwine with torments, emerges DEPOIS DO CAOS (AFTER THE CHAOS), the name that is the motto of this exhibition.

Alarming data from the Directorate-General for Health show that a significant proportion of the population, about 4 out of 10 people, will face a mental disorder during their lifetime. Portugal, unfortunately, is the European country with the highest consumption of anxiolytics and antidepressants, which highlights the magnitude of this challenge.

DEPOIS DO CAOS is an exhibition inspired by the artist’s academic, clinical and personal experiences. As a medical student dealing with mental health issues, he translates the possibility of a happy ending after the storm into paintings. Using bold colors and geometric shapes, he places characters with large mouths in endless landscapes. The works invite reflection on the (un)conscious world and show the before and after, from resilience to transformation, with a focus on emerging from the shadows.

DEPOIS DO CAOS is a beacon of hope, an invitation to explore the depths of the mind and find the right direction.

 

BIOGRAPHY
Duarte Próspero aka Mtáfora, was born in Lisbon (1995), and divides his time between his passion for visual arts and medicine.
From an early age he has a fascination for bold colors and geometric shapes. Using the figurative or the abstract, his goal has always been to provoke a reaction in people through his works.

With an artistic path that has passed through galleries such as the Altice Foundation, Apaixonarte and Lisbon City Hall. His works are based on a vast universe of colors, shapes and textures, which are adapted as a basis for his artistic expression through paper, canvas or street walls.

With influences from Basquiat, Miró, Keith Haring or Picasso, he has developed a childish, imperfect and carefree style, where his objective is to convey a message through the simplicity of the pieces.
