Maria Melancolia was born in Angola and lives and works in Braga. Self-taught illustrator, her artistic path started with analogue collage and drawing, she has adopted digital for the past 10 years. Her works explore self-acceptance, absurdity, surrealism, melancholy, love, and other themes not always easy to define.

Her collages have been featured in Vogue magazine and Marie Claire. She has been involved in other illustration projects: posters, album covers, agendas, book covers, magazines, online content for beauty brands, musicians and artists and small publications.
