The Dia da Espiga is a Portuguese celebration, which symbolizes the harvest season. The tradition is born from pagan rituals, especially from Celtic and Roman cultures.  Each component of the branch has a meaning.  The vine represents wine, rosemary, strength, the olive tree, peace and oil, the daisy, wealth, poppy, love and the cob of any cereal, symbolize bread and sustenance.
