Postcards – Artes & Letras Atelier
Artes & Letras Atelier (Arts & Letters Studio) is a small experimental typographic laboratory that lived on our street. For years Apaixonarte and Atelier met in the middle of Poiais de São Bento Street, to talk. The destiny wanted the studio to live in another city, just as beautiful. All typography machines and all letters traveled to Óbidos. Our love for the studio stayed here in Lisbon, clinging to these postcards, handmade by Inez Caria. Visual artist, illustrator and poet of small things …
Produced in typography, in manual printing machines, dating the oldest of the end of the century. XIX. The text is composed of movable characters (letters), in lead or wood. The images are printed from matrices in linoleum, wood, or metal, which translate the original drawings. Papers, chosen on a case-by-case basis, range from handmade production to old papers, saved from oblivion in warehouses, long removed from the market. The sum of all these characteristics means that there are not two identical postcards.
The postcard as a form of art, compact, that synthesizes and conveys ideas and concepts.
Small support, but with great possibility of intervention. As simple as it is complex. Communication object, which allows multiple interventions (mail, sender, recipient) making it a single piece with several hands.
